EditMan v1.0:
Manual editor for strip masks

- What it does:
We do not know of any stripping algorithm that can satisfy all of the people, all of the time (rats!). EditMan allows you to make manual corrections to a mask volume, or to create a mask volume from scratch. Ordinarily we deal with binary masks -- but EditMan will also let you make or edit a mask that has multiple values; for example, with value 1 for the left hemisphere, value 2 for the right hemisphere and so on. See the screenshot below for an idea of the interface layout (click on the image for a larger view).
Features:
- Allows editing in axial, coronal, or sagittal views (upper left panel in GUI). You draw a region of interest with your mouse; the ROI can then be added or subtracted from the existing mask on the slice. The current ROI can be reused on another slice.
- You can generate a surface rendering of the MRI volume with the current mask (upper right panel in GUI).
- In addition to incrementing one slice at a time, you may navigate
around the volume by clicking on the orthogonal views (lower left),
gallery of slices (lower right), or the surface rendering.
- Operates on ANALYZE and VAPET storage format volumes (8 and 16 bit integers).
- Runs on TrueColor display systems ONLY.
Requirements:
- IDL5.5 or higher as either a development or runtime license. The IDL6.0 Virtual Machine (it's free!) may also be used. Obtain IDL from Research Systems Inc. at http://www.rsinc.com/
- Requires .9 MBytes disk space for source code, 1.2 MBytes for a Save set, and 5.9 MBytes for the example volumes. The gzipped tarfile is 9.8 MBytes.
- Requires a three-button mouse or a graphics tablet and pen.
A pen may be more comfortable to use for extended periods.
Release History:
- Save sets are available for IDL versions 5.5, 5.6 and 6.0. The 5.5 and 6.0 save sets have been verified under Windows 2000 as well as Linux.
- The IDL6.0 save set has been run using an IDL Virtual Machine on Windows 2000 and Linux.
- Source code is provided.
Software revisions:
- The current version is 1.0 (September, 2004). This is the initial release.
Notes:
- No testing has been performed on Macintoshes for this package, but other applications developed by this group were compatible with OS 10 systems.
- Filenames with spaces are apt to cause problems, because the primary author became set in her ways long ago!
- There are plans to support MINC and NIFTE formats fairly soon, but for now you must do your own conversions to and from ANALYZE.
