Requirements
The Corner Cube Environment software package requires IDL version 5.0 and a C compiler. It runs on Unix platforms supporting 8-bit pseudo-color displays, and functions best on displays larger than 1024x768. The software package is available free; we provide source code and a sample volume, but no guarantees.
Results
We have performed a comparative evaluation of the Corner Cube Environment against maximum-intensity projection and "gallery of slices" displays, and the results suggest that CCE has definite advantages over both conventional display techniques (See Rehm et al. "A symbolic environment for visualizing activated foci in functional neuroimaging datasets." Medical Image Analysis 1998; 2(3): 215-226). The Corner Cube Environment has proven to be an effective tool for summarizing the spatial characteristics of activated foci within an easily understood visual context and is especially useful for displaying the similarities and differences in functional neuroimaging datasets.
The Corner Cube Environment was also featured on the cover of NeuroImage presenting neuroimaging results from Sidtis et al. "Are brain functions really additive?" 1999; 9(5):490-496.
Test Drive
Still not sure whether to download the Corner Cube Environment? Two web-based applications have been developed by INC to demonstrate the functionality and effectiveness of the CCE. The Visualization Testbed compares the efficacy of the CCE, gallery-of-slices and SPM-like orthogonal projections for interpreting neuroimaging datasets. Corner Cube On The Web allows a user to test the Corner Cube Environment from an Internet browser.
